Background
A simple equipment fault in an ATEX ( Explosive Atmospheres ) zone can cause an explosion: gas stations, agricultural silos, chemical plants, cement factories, etc. These environments are subject to the presence of flammable gases, vapors, or dust combined with oxygen, or high electrical voltages. All it takes is a spark or an abnormal rise in temperature to trigger an accident.
ATEX zones are subject to particularly stringent regulations at the French, European, and international levels, such as the ATEX 2014/34/EU and ATEX 1999/92/EC directives and the IECEx standards (IEC 60079-x).
